HOUSTON: Only 39 Apartments will take a Felon until year 10

Only 39 Places until Year 10

Well, 39 total places for a felony conviction are available. But what applies to you will certainly be less than that number.  Location, price range, availability, and the "crime and time" restriction will certainly affect your choices.

What do I mean by CRIME & TIME?  Many apartments have a rule on when they will consider you for an apartment.  Usually the more "distasteful" a crime is creates their guidelines.  Let me give you 3 examples:

1. A hot check felony may be accepted at year 1 by some complexes since they view their risk as minimal (they will insist that you pay with a money order).

2. A marijuana possession crime may be accepted by some complexes at year 5.  However a dealing or distribution crime may not be accepted until year 10.

3. Some complexes will never take an aggravated felony (weapon or threat used in a crime) or violent crime while others wait for 10 years.

  1. Lol I'm supposed to be homeless my entire life or for ten years because of something I did when I was 17 and served my time for! Lol this world is trash seriously I have a full time job and busting my but to be positive and be a good citizen and I can't even get a place to live. What's the world coming to, then people wonder why 90 % of people return to jail!!!?? Because even the % that trys to change there life do not get a chance. Point blank period. But my head gonna stay high and I will find a wa against all odds. 26. Serjeo.

    6. Yeah kind of outrageous. Guess I'll have to buy a house before my man comes home after paying a 22 1/2 year debt. Shameful because there a quite a few that were in a bad place at a young age. Forget that people do change huh? So many undercover messed up people that get through the cracks. Just sad. Wish anyone going through this the best. Keep ya head up because they're purposely trying to set you up for failure.

  2. God said "Be of good cheer" and you should Akensserjeo. It may be hard but God will bless you beyond all you can imagine for your obedience so just keep pushing forward. Try looking in the greensheet and on craigslist for places that are privately owned. The owners normally don't do a criminal background check so you should be able to find something. i would not try asking the apartment locator that provides this site. I sent them an email several months ago and still have heard nothing. Not even a "I got nothing" response. I also talked to him in the past and he was very unhelpful. I would suggest just striking out on your own and save yourself the waste of time. Good luck!

    6. He didn have to be a butthole about it, but let's face the fact that he's kinda telling the truth. Because HE whoever yours is sure ain't helping a lot of people good or bad. I just say you get what ya get give so it's best to put out as much positive vibes in the universe as you can. A white man slaved us, so who's really saving us? But that's another subject. Best of luck to any and everyone.

    6. Hopefully there's change by the time mine gets home, but because I'm ambitious I will be on the road to purchasing a house before that time. They will not keep my man. His sentence was already outrageous. If I can help it they won't get nothing more out of him than what he is supposed to serve. And half the people that own places got a few felons, creeps, pervs, thieves, killers in their family too. I hate humans sometimes. Old petty judgmental folks in this world before they even know the whole truth. Assuming is what some things are messed up now. Smh

  6. I was denied atcabo san lucas apartments the othrr day. The funny part was that there was a girl handing out fliers the day I applied and guess what? We were locked up together! And the manager left me a voice mail saying they can't possibly rent to me! Like im the lowest scum on earth! I worked really hard to get where I am so far and it still doesnt make a difference. I have awesome credit and been at the same job for over 2 years. I work and I go home, to my sister's house. I am 38 years old. I need my own space!!

  10. I just moved here from Chicago, and I have and I have to say all the comments have given me something to look at. I too have felonies in my past but I also believe that if you work hard enough things will go your way. Nothing's meant to be easy. Especially for those whose background has been compromised. Grant it, we all make mistakes. Some seem to be punished longer than others. I for appreciate the heads up. Now I have a better idea as to what to expect.

  13. I live in Oakridge Apts off Rushcreek and Northborough and well they will accept felons on a case by case basis my and my husband have felonies. The only thing is that the manager is a ass and she will hold over your head that you are a felon and you can get out or pay her fines that she gives how and when she wants to. She says they are her apts and what she will and wont have on 'her' property. i was just told to pay her fine or get the hell out. cause she didnt have to let me and my husband stay there

  15. Keep your head up guys. There is hope and thats what you have to hold to. My cousin is a convicted felon (drugs and robbery), got out and changed his life. Itwas not easy for him. Many times he almost gave up. But. withhard work, persistence, dedication, hope and patience, he now works for Tmobile as a drafter, bought a new home in Pearland, two luxury cars, and takes care of his wife nd kid with zero help. When i look at him and look at other guys who have been down that same road, there is hope. It's a mattercof how bad you want it. What honest measure you will take to go and get it. Keep trying guys. It will work out for your good.

  24. I was just reading all tye comments. Its sad that when your doing good even when you making a decent living with a background they still deny you. My Husband has a background nd even though we make a decent living we can't move. We still at my mother and father in law house when we trying to move. Guess I gotta take it to the news to shine some light about this issue.
